FYI, Grand Theft auto 4 and many other GTA games have been released since 3. But none of the GTA games since 3 allowed you to pick up hookers. Instead you can build a relationship with female characters, by going on dates etc. and eventually get to a scene where you enter her apartment and see the light goes off. lol. GTA 5 will be released in the spring and they are touting an engaging story playing the game from 3 perspective characters. And no rape in this one either.
Like I said games are interactive movies now watch this trailer and see what I mean. So the time waste is = to watching films and TV.

Now tv is even turning into video games where CBS is allowing viewers to choose the ending of an episode of Hawii 5-O, much like player choice in video games.
Hey guys, thought I would let you know, I haven’t been able to listen to the podcast since you switched over to this “stitcher” program. Is there any other way to download the podcasts to my ipod/androids?
Do they have pong on that thing too? That’s something I can do.
You’ve mentioned the way the rest of the world looks at America’s love of guns a few times recently, and I think this clip from (the generally very good) Channel 4 News in the UK illustrates your point well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtMerG7L76Y
The interview from about 4 minutes onward is of note. Even just through his tone, Jon Snow illustrates how Britain (and presumably most other countries) views the debate. He makes his disdain very clear but still remains calm and rational – and in the process shows the interviewee up to be an idiot.
David loving your show talking about the NRA.
I’ve been working with a number of the groups fighting them.
i know that you are very aware of the savvy use of language by the NRA and I’d like you to point out some of that to your listeners as well as alternatives they can use.
1) The NRA uses “Stand Your Ground” which is the title of bill used by the NRA lobbyist who created it. It makes people look like brave heroes instead of what it is, a way to justify killing people who they feel threatened by others out in public with out being prosecuted.
When referring to this try using “Kill at Will” laws or “Shoot first” laws. Expanded castle doctrine laws also might work because that is what they are derived from, yet defending yourself in your home using deadly force is very different from shooting someone out in public that scares you.
2) The NRA calls people who oppose them, “Gun Grabbers” or “anti-gun” the media turns this into a “pro-gun” and “anti-gun” debate.
Consider using “pro-public safety” This phrase and term let’s you focus on getting rid of rapid fire weapon as well as better mental health care. Then to the media it’s a “pro-public safety groups vs the NRA”
2a) You will note that Obama is now using “gun safety” laws instead of “gun control” this is a step in the right direction.
3) You read a story today about the shootings during gun appreciation day. You referred to an “accidental” shooting. Using ‘accidental” removes the human from the story. Someone was NEGLIGENT in gun storage, handling or use. A gun needs someone to do something for it to fire. By removing the agency of the human in the story it makes the gun the actor. It also uses passive voice, “the gun when off” it is like “mistakes were made” phrasing.
The guy who stored his gun poorly or didn’t know how to operate it correctly was negligent.
4) You will note the NRA is using on “gun rights” as short hand. As inanimate objects they don’t have rights. People have rights.
They also talk about their “2nd Amendment Rights” all the time instead of the right to life and liberty of others (Rights that are higher up in the constitution than the 2nd Amendment.) There are multiple reasons for this but most recently the reason is to move focus away from dead children. They don’t want to be “pro dead children” so they are pro-2nd Amendment Rights.
The move of focus away from children to 2nd Amendment allows them to give their members a chance to focus on themselves vs. some kids in another state. They will say how horrible this strategy is but will move the conversation away to their members rights and their activate their fear “The government is goin’ take your guns”
Love your show and I understand your desire to “get into the heads” of the right wing nuts. I’ve done it. When I was done I decided I don’t need to understand them anymore, need to stop them. So I developed programs to defund them. I’ve personally cost right wing media organizations millions in revenue (which the move above all else)
I’m working to make everyone safer in the public. I’m tired of tippy toeing around people who put their selfish desires to play with a weapon that kills rapidly from a distance above the lives of innocents. One of the first steps in this process is to stop making their desires noble. “They aren’t “standing their ground” they are shooting first so they can get off with murder.”
Guns aren’t accidently going off, people are being NEGLIGENT in handling them. If you are NEGLIGENT when carrying or storing a gun shouldn’t there be a fine or you lose the ability to own weapons like with a DUI? The only way this can be enforced is for the sane people in the gun community and the public at large to insist on sanctions for people who are NEGLIGENT with their guns. And this won’t happen if we just call them accidents.
Thanks for your great shows.

Crud, that was intended for the the “Gun Appreciation Day” episode, but it’s not posted here yet.
