Earlier this week, the Dallas Voice reported that the Texas Republican Party had stripped language from its platform that claimed that “homosexuality tears at the fabric of society and contributes to the breakdown of the family,” but the Houston Chronicle now reports that the language has been replaced with a different kind of condemnation. Republicans won’t let us burn the flag but have no qualms destroying our government. From today’s New York Times editorial page…
Already, the mulish behavior of Congressional Republicans has led to the creation of the sequester, blocked action on economic growth and climate change, prevented reasonable checks on gun purchases and threatens to blow up a hard-fought compromise on immigration. Mr. Dole’s words should remind his party that it is not only abandoning its past, but damaging the country’s future.
These people will stay in power for as long as they succeed in making it harder for you to vote.
Republicans learned years ago that what they want we don’t want. That’s why they gerrymander, prevent blacks and hispanics from voting and filibuster the Democratic majority away in the senate.
Even though Republicans control the House more Americans voted for a Democratic congressional candidate in 2012 than they did a Republican. Thanks to gerrymandering the House stays red. We are not witnessing the will of the people.
