We talk with The Nation Institute’s Todd Miller who has researched and written about U.S.-Mexican border issues for more than 10 years. Todd has worked on both sides of the border for BorderLinks in Tucson, Arizona, and Witness for Peace in Oaxaca, Mexico. He now writes on border and immigration issues for NACLA Report on the Americas and its blog “Border Wars,” among other places. He’s completed his first book, Border Patrol Nation, for the Open Media Series of City Lights Books.

A Message For John Kerry

We voted for John Kerry.


John Kerry is a good man who wants to serve America. Unfortunately there’s no job in Washington entitled, “Secretary of Peace.” In fact, there’s no Department Of Peace. There is no Senate Committee on Peace. All we have in Washington is people in the business of making war. That’s why there is nobody whispering in our president’s ear to make peace. There is no money to be made in peace. So there is no real debate when it comes to waging war. Good people like Kerry and Obama can’t find someone to argue the other side. Americans mock pacifists as though they’re cowards. The least respected president of the 20th century is Jimmy Carter. Mostly because he didn’t want blood on his hands.
