Pelosi Has To Do Better

These are the “choice” words Nancy Pelosi deployed yesterday to “stand up” to Trump: “Mr. President,” she said, “please don’t characterize the strength that I bring to this meeting as the leader of the House Democrats, who just won a big victory.”

Really? This was her Aaron Sorkin moment? Have we set the bar that low for Democrats? What does she even mean? I had to read those words five times before I understood what Pelosi was trying to convey.
I saw the video and it made no sense.

If Pelosi actually stood for something, she would have stood up to Trump clearly. That was pathetic. In order to stand up to a fascist, which Trump is, Pelosi must offer the country an alternative. Not inarticulate word salad.

Trump will roll over all of us because he believes in something, and our Democratic leadership does not. Pelosi doesn’t get credit for stopping the wall. This is about Medicare For All. If you can’t demonize health insurance companies the same way Trump demonizes that caravan, then you are just as responsible for the fall of our republic as Trump is.

Watching Pelosi and Schumer with Trump yesterday shouldn’t make me feel like I’m rooting for my five-year-old’s soccer team. You don’t get a trophy just for kicking the ball back to Donald, Nancy. Speak clearly. Say something. Believe in something. Or step aside.

Standing up to Trump is a fool’s errand, offer Americans an alternative to rally behind.

Harrold Carswell for the Supreme Court.

Macron said he would cancel plans to tax pensions, and would also eliminate taxes on overtime and Christmas bonuses. Meanwhile the Yellow Vest demonstrations have spread to Belgium as workers protest austerity and neoliberal economic policies. Judah Grunstein provides context.
